    I Had Nowhere to Go

When people watch films, they really just crave the snow.

An affecting, if patchy, piece of long-form experimental film that plays with the collective imaginary of a cinema audience. Long periods of silence in front of a blank screen are used to varying degrees of success, and Gordon uses some of his bluntest tools when he should be at his most delicate.

The Man in the White Suit

One of my favourite Ealing comedies. Narrative, aesthetics, symbolism - all hanging off the costume.

Orthodox imagery—particularly Marian symbols and characters—is woven through the whole film and gives it its emotional heart. Structured around a few long takes, the film blends the cinematic and the theatrical to great effect.
