Krampus 2015
That initial sighting rooftop to rooftop is the stuff of nightmares. Feels like somebody woke up and feverishly wrote that down. Maybe that’s how we got here. If this was 85 they might have pushed it out a bit more with the gore. But I understand its purpose. It’s a middle class home invasion sleeper like Poltergeist. Wide audience needs that festive message.

Stop Making Sense 1984
Never big fan of post Brian Eno Talking Heads. Which there’s a lot of it here. They mollowed out and lost the danger. But this won me over from David’s 808 Psycho Killer.

Ghost in the Shell 2017
Finally, it might be a gem. That Takeshi Kitano has the best Beat Takeshi ambush scene. Possibly best scene of 2017. They turned Batou in Martin Riggs he even has a shitty fishing boat he gets drunk on. I’d follow him and his team on another film. They cut TRICKY out didn’t they? Like what they did with the Tachikoma Tanks ..it’s short comings come from leaning on that flat 95 anime film IMO.. instead of Shirow’s Manga. But it’s better interpretation of a Shirow city. Imagine what the same crew could have done with Appleseed’s Olympus.

Nightbreed 1990
The home invasion opening use to scare the life out of me. 1st time with the Directors cut. Adds and takes away places. Possibly more interesting world than Hellraiser. You can see they put their heart into building it. Such a shame. Maybe too post-horror for 1990. If this was made couple of years earlier they would probably put one out every few years easy.

It 2017
I was around same age as these kids in that year... BATMAN & LETHAL WEAPON 2 took up 25% of the screen. I was transported back to a long summer. Effective horror put waisted for the first 20mins with a big, big heart. Had more in common with Stand By Me than anything for me. Got sudden overwhelming urge to watch The Explorers.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets 2017
If this was 1997 it would have the whole of the Summer to find an audience to love it. Like DREDD. It will get it too late...
