Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

What if Alistair Maclean had written a Star Wars novel?

  • How to Get Ahead in Advertising

How to Get Ahead in Advertising

Probably more urgent in theme now than it ever was in its time. Serving as an observation on how horrific a decade was; a companion piece to They Live. It's final is a Tory fever dream. True horror.

  • Days of Thunder

    Days of Thunder

It's stupid. You can clearly distinguish the iconic dialogue written by Towne and the shite Cruise put in. But the vibrating race energy is hard to over look... stock cars inches from crushing the camera.
Technically the first Sergio Leone movie I ever watched at age 13.

  • F/X

Solid little NY thriller. Witness Tom Noonan's spider like run in Central Park. Diane Venora wasn't in this enough.

  • RoboCop 3

    RoboCop 3

Moments of charm. It yo-yos from PG to 15 cert from one scene to the next. Screams of production interference. That domino transition scene gets one star. Robo gets knocked on his arse a lot like a domino.

  • Nightflyers

Another 80s film that needs 20mins put back in; or something anything to sort its crippled pacing. Catherine Mary Stewart says little but is all. Great cinema photography and lighting design. Making something look more expensive than it actually was. You wanted to explore more of the ship. Clunky external space effects with a effective gore scene. Will Smith's Uncle Phil gets blown up and fired out of the ships kitchen.

  • Edge of Tomorrow

    Edge of Tomorrow

A film about ancient art of scum saving.

  • Lifeforce

Hooper's swan song to Hammer. Astonishing practical effects. But it suffers the same fate as 'American Werewolf in London' to me. US director doesn't spend enough time on location makes 'Angland' for the folks back home. 72's Deathline never had that problem.

  • Žižek!

' I was always disgusted with this notion of “I love the world,” universal love. I don’t like the world. I don’t know how… Basically, I’m somewhere in between “I hate the world” or  “I’m indifferent towards it.” But the whole of reality, it’s just it. It’s stupid.  It is out there. I don’t care about it. Love, for me, is an extremely violent act. Love is not “I love you all.” Love means I pick out something, and it’s,…

  • Ghostbusters II

    Ghostbusters II

Annie Potts gets one and a half stars.

  • Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within

    Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within

Never understood the hate. It has that environmental theme that's very FF and like other FF products you can see the money in the finish. I think 2001 was just more about indifference to its existence and its marketing was the huge amount of money Sony poured on to it.

  • Army of Darkness

    Army of Darkness

I swear Sam Raimi watched 1988's Willow and took notes.
