Perfection and timing. All the right people in right place. You forget how visually dense it is. It's all here from the pages, everything and Gilliam added more shite from Hunter's world. Even has Gary Busey channeling one of those cops Charles Napier would play in Russ Meyer films.
The scene in the Circus rotating bar with Gonzo (Del Toro) is still one of the funniest things I've ever witnessed. From him developing the hiccups while asking a bar waitress…
The New World 2005

Enough has been said about how Malick betrayed everybody to throw away a conventional love story to make something far more elimental. He was right to.
That 3rd act still looks like a different planet to me, as opposed to similar indigenous surroundings. We are all Wes Studi's Powhatan Chief drifting through this alien landscape. James Horner's beautiful Glass like repetitive refrains hold it all together.

It's the least 'American' movie Speilberg ever made and his most anarchic. The shiny red Plymouth Valient is America. The smoke belching destructive force spends 90mins trying to break it. King of the late night TV movies.
