I never knew murder, sex, and Jack Nicholson could be so dull. While the 1946 version had problems like Lana Turner constantly reminding you she is a movie star and not an actress playing a waitress in an out of the way dumpy roadside diner, it still managed to create more sexual heat than this 1981 version. Frankly, I like Visconti’s unauthorized 1943 version (Ossessione) the best of all.

At times I found myself the only one in the theater laughing. I know the woman sitting next to my wife hated the film as she said so in so many words. She just didn’t get it. Frances MacDormand is an acting treasure and we should, if life is fair, be hearing her name come up plenty as Award season approaches.

Light comic mystery with musical star Deanna Durbin in a rare stretch outside her usual genre. The filmmakers do manage to squeeze in a few songs. Overall, it's entertaining with a good cast that includes Dan Duryea, Ralph Bellamy, Edward Everett Horton and Elizabeth Patterson.

Brilliant satire from Stanley Kubrick with superb performances from Peter Sellers.
