Heat ★★★

I was really looking forward to revisiting this film but holy hell, something has happened in the intervening years since I last saw it. Either it’s just not as good as I remember it or my tolerance for Michael Mann’s bullshit has gone way, way down. The set-pieces are great, and Pacino is off-the-charts amazing (this is the high water mark for deranged Pacino line-readings), but there’s too much weight given to the useless subplots and Mann’s heart isn’t really in them anyway so they’re just kinda there making the whole thing feel like a bit more leaden than it should.
