The King ★★½

Joel Edgerton makes for a great Falstaff and Sean Harris elevates pretty much everything he's in, but otherwise this is a dour, soulless (but extremely elegant-looking) retelling/summary of Shakespeare's Henriad that seems to want to do for Henry V what Justin Kurzel did for Macbeth. As the skinny, doe-eyed frame on which the entire story hangs, Timothée Chalamet does nothing as Henry, giving us an entire range of acting from "put upon" to "very put upon".

A real disappointment.
