Kong: Skull Island

Kong: Skull Island ★★★★½

Marking a hugely impressive second installment in Warner Bros. & Legendary's cinematic MonsterVerse following Gareth Edwards' Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island also marks a rousing blockbuster debut from indie darling Jordan Vogt-Roberts, with breathtaking cinematography, slick and sweeping action sequences, fun (if not particularly well-developed) characters, great performances, dynamic direction, dazzling visual effects, and a surprisingly quite clever and self-aware if tonally inconsistent script that cheerfully embraces its B-movie schlock factor and wears it as a badge of honor.
