Dave’s review published on Letterboxd:
the dichotomy between the law and the factions they oppose has been thinly drawn in countless films, but wilson yip embraces both sides' familial priorities. there is little to no regard for the law for any of these men, scarred by patriarchal "duties" that cause total erosion and suffering. ending the film with a sort of lingering, searing ellipsis and flashing back encapsulates and sends all the hits home - you can't ever get back what's lost, and will live with the consequences. damning cinema.
