Doesn’t quite live up to the Clooney trilogy but still very enjoyable. Bullock owns her role as does Blanchette and even Rihanna (!) but unfortunately the characters outside of two or three aren’t quite individualized as hoped. However, I did laugh quite a bit and honestly I’m a sucker for heist films.
Pixar has done it again. They've
managed to strike that balance between humour and heartwarming perfectly. They've also managed to do a proper sequel and avoid another Cars 2 situation.
I loved the new character additions, specifically Ed O Neil's Hank character and Edris Elba's seal character. However the old characters that appear do an entertaining job as well, specifically Ellen DeGeneres as Dory. DeGeneres owns the role and adds plenty of warmth to an already inviting character.
All I knew about this film going in was that Jake Gyllenhaal gives an amazing performance and that it was about freelance journalism. And honestly that's all you need to know. Knowing too much more about the story or even Gyllenhaal's performance diminishes the overall experience.
