Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones

    ★★

Still a slog to get through, but some well done elements. The foundation for the story is there, but the writing and pacing never help it exceed beyond just a foundation.

Aspects of Darth Vader creep in here and there in Anakin’s character, but because most of his dialogue is whiny, it’s hard to think of him as the all powerful dark lord of the Sith he becomes.

Still, the scene involving Anakin’s mother is well done and I’d be lying if I said I don’t enjoy the arena battle at the end of the film. Plus, Yoda wielding a lightsaber is also pretty friggin awesome!

Definitely the weakest of the series, but still enjoyable. The story writing in these is always solid and this entry ties in to the others nicely. Unfortunately some of the scares are too gimmicky and while the whole series feels like it’s all wrapped up, there is still a small opening that could lead to more of these films. That’s not entirely a negative provided they keep Leigh Wannell on board the writing should remain solid

Pixar has done it again. They've
managed to strike that balance between humour and heartwarming perfectly. They've also managed to do a proper sequel and avoid another Cars 2 situation.

I loved the new character additions, specifically Ed O Neil's Hank character and Edris Elba's seal character. However the old characters that appear do an entertaining job as well, specifically Ellen DeGeneres as Dory. DeGeneres owns the role and adds plenty of warmth to an already inviting character.

All I knew about this film going in was that Jake Gyllenhaal gives an amazing performance and that it was about freelance journalism. And honestly that's all you need to know. Knowing too much more about the story or even Gyllenhaal's performance diminishes the overall experience. All I will say is that everything said about Gyllenhaal's performance is true and that this one of very few movies where I saw countless possibilities of where the story would go and I…
