    I’d like to see Aster stretch past his signature plot beats of 1) 21st century normies dragged into rituals and inhabiting roles completely outside their Overton window of possibility and morality, and 2) suffering women traumatized by grief. This and Hereditary make a good one-two punch in that domain, but hopefully he changes it up next time. 

    An acquaintance gushed about seeing this movie twice theatrically, and it’s clear why, as the motivations of the commune and Pelle in particular…

    Apparently I labeled The Night Comes For Us as “Raid 3” not knowing this movie was made in between, which makes it Raid 2.5 I guess. You’d think Iko Uwais Die Hard-ing his way through another gauntlet of one-at-a-time boss fights would get old, and you’d be a little right, not that it isn’t entertaining in the moment. That mostly leaves everyone being extremely wasteful with bullets as the distinguishing factor, with the added indignity of insufficient squibbing. You shoot…
