    There's something silently magnanimous about how this film drew me in. Perhaps it's finally seeing Tamil characters and the Tamil experience be the focus (despite Tamils not being cast), but regardless the immersion into the land I never quite got to know was rapturous. The environment, setting, and juxtaposition of glowing estates, lush greenery, and darkened derelicts made me long for the home of my family.

    But more than its setting, the story is what kept my attention hostage throughout.…
