The Gentlemen

The Gentlemen ★★½

This was pretty good, but does anyone else feel like Guy Ritchie is kind of a one-trick pony? It seems like he only knows how to make brash British crime flicks and whatever boring studio assignment his agent lands him in between. Whatever, for what it’s worth this convoluted crime caper about an American expat (Matthew McConaughey) and the various underworld figures striving to gain control of his pot growing operation boasts the usual thrills and spills fans of Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrells have come to expect, albeit with somewhat diminishing returns. Thankfully the cast also featuring High Grant, Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrell, Jeremy Strong, and Michelle Dockery is uniformly entertaining and the screenplay has no shortage of twists to keep things interesting enough into the final act.
