Serenity

Serenity

More of a slog than a howler, unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, there are some laughs (thinking of McConnaughey's seething delivery of the hysterical line "ever since your wife died, we haven't caught jack shit") but it's mostly an exercise in scratching one's head. Flirts tantalizingly with 90's Eszterhas territory before veering off course towards something more, um, ambitious. McConnaughey and Hathaway are the absolute worst versions of themselves while Jason Clarke idealizes the dirtbag cuck persona he's been honing since Terminator Genisys denied him matinee status.
