Film School Drop Outs - Weekly Challenge 2019
Week 33 - Auteur - Chantal Akerman

What can I possibly say about this film after a first watch? Not much. It is pure contemplative cinema, and as one, it succeeds in conveying a sense of intimacy to the viewer with Jeanne, a widowed woman, whose life is captured through static cameras for a three-day period, embodied in a 201 minutes long film; a runtime that might be intimidating at first, but which progressively moves faster as we start getting used to Dielman's manners, and inevitably get attached to her. Now, this film would need a rewatch to examine Akerman's statatement about rupture of routine, whose perils are insinuated in that unexpected ending.
