There's a lot of philosophizing in this movie about empire and manhood and the end of an era. Some of it is kinda tone deaf (especially the brand which cast Sean Connery as an Arab chieftain. Like what?). However, I've watched a number of films recently, and read a lot of Robert Howard, and I think the brand of manhood that explores darkest Africa, fights off vastly superior enemy assaults in the midst of howling wilderness or leads a cavalry…

A horrifying but extremely realistic (if dramatic) portrayal of the torture and death of Jesus of Nazareth. Certainly a movie that should be seen by all Christians, and really everyone else. While there are elements of Catholic tradition in this movie that I as a Protestant don't really believe happened (or just don't give much weight to), the bulk of this film is straight from the pages of the Bible and any additives or embellishments are largely based on plausible…

Having so many characters made it difficult to connect with any of them, and to a certain degree it was clear that the Eternals as a group were just a convenient excuse for Marvel Studios to fill some diversity quotas in a way that says "Hey, we have one of THOSE onscreen, so we're hip and progressive." This felt to me like the very best of the kinds of documentaries the History Channel used to make before it became the American Pawn Star Pickers Channel. This was a really good primer on the history of a super interesting period in Japanese history, one that most westerners should know more about. I've seen some other reviews mention that they felt like this was pretty dry and I have to be honest, this is as action-packed as history gets kids. It doesn't get any better than this type of documentary.

If you haven’t seen this latest Marvel film, I would highly recommend it. This movie is fantastic for several reasons, it is not just “another superhero movie”, it is smartly written and funny, while at the same time capable of great poignancy, and it is reminiscent of great (in my opinion) movies, such as Star Wars, Serenity and the new Star Trek: Into Darkness, to name a few.

In recent years, there has been a “superhero blockbuster” every five minutes,…

How does this get a Letterboxd entry? I made a short film for French class in high school. Can I get an entry for that?
