It’s perfectly okay for what it is. It’s a dumb fun movie with some seriously weak writing at some parts. Jim Carrey will always be the man though.
I decided to try and read Roger Eberts best reviews but I want to watch each movie before I read his review to compare it to my own thoughts without it being influenced by one of the best of all time. La Dolce Vita was first on the list and this film is pretty much a masterpiece. It’s incredible to see the interplay between the Italians and Americans. The film is expertly made and I really can’t find much wrong…
This was an artistic film start to finish. I’m very happy it earned some award for Netflix and helped show that streaming services can put out quality films as well as just dumb fun stuff. I will say that sometimes I felt the camera lingered a bit too long which gave me an uncomfortable feeling. That discomfort was welcomed as it was something I would expect from a horror film instead of a drama. The fact it was shot in black and white also had something to do with it I’m sure.
