A decent all ages Halloween flick. Guillermo del Toro’s skill in bringing monsters to the silver screen shines brightly into focus, and carries much of the movie. Generally, the backdrop of the film left me uninterested, albeit more aware of the plots 1968 setting. I do also feel the need to say I’m unaware of the original source material, but I do have a feeling that the individual monster stories may exist more powerfully on page then on screen.
