All That Heaven Allows ★★★★★

Quite the reappraisal from my previous (and embarrassing) 3 1/2 star rating. Now considering the previous Sirk's I've viewed in the past week (suspiciously no Written on the Wind), I do think this helped with the more positive reaction. Sincerely look at this film; it's a snowglobe effect of seclusion and status. Every whisper and every sneer breaks down Roy and Cary's relationship even more. With every societal glare, a blow to our hearts aches more and more. With every tear, comes a frown. But with every blaring break into the mold that Cary had conformed herself to, a smile, and a shining hope for love. This is some of the most beautiful technicolor you'll ever see and some of the most emotional filmmaking by a filmmaker. Sirk is an underrated master of the craft. And one more thing:

CRITERION, PUT OUT THE TARNISHED ANGELS ON BLU RAY PLEASE
