Ayayay. Um, what the f*ck? Ugh. Hmmm. Uhhh, why? I mean, ugh.

Poor writing mishandles gender and sexuality in the most lighthearted, offensive, and antiquated way. Some of the comedic setups work. Scrappy characterization doesn't help in identifying with the narrative. And its sweet ending is extremely forced.

Loved its straightforward critique of the hypocrisy within Mexican society vis-Γ -vis the Catholic Church. GarcΓa Bernal provides solid foundation to the central conflict of carnality vs. faith. Thematically bold, aesthetically adequate.

Little Miss Sunshine's soul sister. Grounds riotous idiosyncrasy on intricate family dynamics. Refreshing. Spot-on ensemble work. Delicious and confident in moving from silly to poignant with consistency and care.

WTF?!?!? Taps real horrors, shakes your core, never lets go. Thrillingly subversive in form and themes. Haunting.
