Julian Nunez’s review published on Letterboxd:
Occupation as brotherhood. There’s a shootout in here which is mostly just anticipation that is among one of the finest i’ve seen, so visually striking and mood centric, practically feels like it’s shot in black & white. That the blocking and movement (or stillness?) emphasizes the character’s evolving relationship and work dynamic (patient and in total control vs. discordant competence from an eariler shootout) is the cherry on top. Intro to Johnnie To a big success, i’d say.
