Shoot the Piano Player

Shoot the Piano Player ★★★★½

Truffaut really likes mirrors doesn't he?

Shoot the Piano Player is somewhat an homage to American gangsters films with their noir atmosphere, look, but shifts the overall viewing experience with the everlasting playful, existential musicality of the french new wave. The story isn't new but the subjectivity of some of the main male character's traits made this movie one of my favourites among the french ones and from Truffaut too, I may like the guy more than Godard even if Godard seems to take more risks and be more of a rebel storytelling and filming-wise.
