Wow! I hadn't seen this since 1979! And it's really good, better than I remembered. Everyone is so perfectly cast. It's poignant and feels real. I dips into broad cartoonish comedy, but it stays within the authentic realm. And so many great performances! Even the smaller parts, like Amy Wright. The four boys are so distinct and so realistic. Dennis Quaid - so young! But wow, so wonderful. Even Paul Dooley and Barbara Barrie are just terrific together. I was all choked up at the end. It's really a lovely film all around.

And it's so poignant too - so many of these stars would be dead soon. Most upsettingly, Carole Lombard. You can feel they were having a blast making it. Did they…
