All Is Lost

All Is Lost ★★★½

Robert Redford has a tough time here, though he rarely lets it show. I guess that's something, though I might have liked a little more tangible anger or frustration or something. When his yacht is impaled by a floating cargo container at the very beginning of the film he treats it as if it's just another thing to do that day. DON'T YOU KNOW YOU'RE IN A MOVIE CALLED ALL IS LOST, ROBERT? THIS IS KIND OF A BIG DEAL! So he's stoic in the face of many topplings and soakings. Stoicism is nice, it's just not super exciting. Neither is this movie. Check out Captain Phillips this year for your seafaring adventure, or Leviathan if you're nasty.
