    “To be naturally unnatural”

    Incredible film. Very glad I watched a few of Cronenberg’s films before seeing this as it’s such a culminative work, both aesthetically and thematically. 

    Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future is a surprisingly touching reexamination of his career-long themes and fears of transformation and evolution. Seydoux is emotionally charged and Stewart is wonderfully weird, but I’m stunned by Mortensen’s performance here. Hoarse, fearful, and introspective, he’s easily one of Cronenberg’s best leading performances in my book.

    Also Stewart is hot, in a bureaucratic way

    Extraordinary film. Pesci and De Niro are deservingly praised standouts, but the film doesn’t work without Liotta. The youthful innocence and crazed aggression he brings to the role holds the work together, equally sympathetic and loathsome. What a talent.

    The fact that Dini and Timm were able to make a Batman film this tragic, sad, complex, and yearning is a testament to both their talent as artists and the power of animation as a medium. Phantasm‘s Batman is a curse, a condemnation to a lonely life of tragedy, and for a brief second Bruce finds a way out, until the brutality of Gotham pulls him back in. And yet, unlike Andrea, Bruce never loses his true self in that vengeance.…
