  With this and Turning Red, you really can see how the studios art direction is changing. A huge emphasis on the silhouette of their characters and the Cal Arts style has injected itself into these movies.

  Good, but the end felt a bit rushed. Pixar can't not make a cute movie. Love to see a La Strada reference.

  One thing I noticed about Eggers work is how he shows fantasy next to reality. It's presented with the same level of authenticity that it becomes real. You are just as fascinated with the fantasy as you are with the historical accuracy that both become as rich and new as they are mysterious.

  This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

  Imagine knowing that you're in and created by someone else's memory; imagine that you know that this isn't how the memory went, questioning yourself and yet being gas lit by your own reality. Constantly trying to break free and fight the creator of the memory, while also actively being created by said thinker.

  Inversely, now imagine being the one thinking of the memory: holding nostalgia for your past and fondly looking back on it while actively avoiding the painful memories…

  Damn just what a solid film. Long but fucking solid.
