Justin Lozada’s review published on Letterboxd:
As I'm watching "Man of Steel" earlier this week, of course I could not help but feel excited for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". Did I have a high level expectation? No, I did not. After watching it did I feel underwhelmed? Again no, I did not. I was just satisfied with what I had just saw and I think that's just fine. I'm not a comic book expert (my boyfriend suggests I hand in my comic geek card) but my boyfriend help fill in the blanks with certain gaps in logic that plagued my mind a bit. The story is not perfect but I blame that more on editing. Even at 151 minutes the film does feel tight and claustrophobic. The action in the film was great, but the sequences are spaced too far apart. There are too many ideas and not all of them stick, but that's ok for the proceedings. "Batman v Superman" is more than just about a showdown between two titans. It's about a collision course that was in the making for years. It's about the experience as a whole. Zack Snyder is not the best storyteller but he does have respect (some might crucify me for saying that) for the source material. He's great at capturing imagery but not good at storytelling. It's easy to see the folks at Warner Bros. are hoping their universe will pan out like Marvel's, but they shouldn't feel the pressure. Just fine tune what they already have and improve upon it. "Batman v Superman" will not revolutionize comic book films but it is a worthy addition to the genre. Looking forward to the R-rated, 3 hour cut.
