Justin Peterson’s review published on Letterboxd:
An anthropomorphic volcano musical love story in honor of the Hawaiian Islands.
🎵I have a dream
I hope it will come true
That you're here with me
And I am here with you
I wish that the earth, sea, and the sky up above
Will send me someone to lava. 🎵
This Pixar short must be brutal on hopeless romantics, seeing all this beautiful tropical romance from all the animals to even the geological formations hooking up.
- Anyone else find the wordplay between love and lava slightly annoying
- It was fun to spot a couple of unexpected hearts appear
- I love how the short is structured around a Hawaiian fable styled song
- So your telling me she had to wait all those years to blast to the surface, and he was able to blast back up there in just seconds after getting fired up about losing her 😉
Overall for such a bizarre premise, it has great execution to get me feeling for a lonely volcano.
Thanks for reading.
Happy short movie watching ... Skål! 🍻
