thierry frémaux listened to lotfy nathan’s intro about the film’s intimacy and his only response was a completely deadpan ‘more.’ so the poor guy had to keep going… and honestly that’s how I felt when this little character study finished. the ending was intense but the film as a whole didn’t do enough with that violence. hated the voice over.

liked this! the narrative is a mess but it makes up for it with a consistent emotional edge. hayakawa beautifully draws out pain and loneliness in the lives of her characters (although there are admittedly too many for such an intimate story). one of my faves of cannes so far despite its flaws!
