An outrageously fun and original addition to the 'vaguely left-leaning black comedy' sub-genre of recent films, of which Parasite (2019) - and to a lesser extent, Sorry to Bother You (2018) - form part. Unfortunately, it suffers from many of the same problems as its Palme d'Or-winning competitor with respect to its political messaging.
There's so much to love about Bacurau's depiction of community solidarity, self-sufficiency and provincial resistance culture in the face of local corruption and *broadly Western* imperialism.…
