J.V. Jowett’s review published on Letterboxd:
There's so much that I LOVE in this film, that it almost completely counter balances everything I HATE in this film. The film is chock-full of amazing visuals that remind me of the playfulness of early silent cinema. It also reminds me of how much I hate 90s cinematography, with its exaggerated well, everything. Like a acid washed Spy Kids, The City of Lost Children brings to life a small coastal village with a myriad of zany characters that at times add and subtract to my enjoyment of this flick. I ultimately decided that there was enough to enjoy in this odd little fairytale, but I am not eager to revisit it.
