i’m not sure what to rate this, but i wanna write about my original thoughts, and maybe i’ll come to a conclusion after some reflection.
i think there were some moments that could’ve been cut, and some that should’ve been added. the script was a little too “#girlboss” at some points, but carey mulligan is phenomenal, so it makes up for it. the actual ending is bittersweet, and i don’t know how i feel about it. i feel uncomfortable judging or praising any of the “morally-grey” areas, because i’ve never been or known someone who has been sexually assaulted or raped. i understood the scene with the dean a lot more than the one with alison brie. it wasn’t entirely clear what happened with her. i truly think enjoyment of this movie is completely up to the viewers interpretation. for some, it could be empowering, but it could fall flat for others. i genuinely don’t know what to think. i’m glad movies like this are being made, i’m just not sure this is the best example of a rape-revenge story.
