Jack Welch’s review published on Letterboxd:
—At one point the heroes have to track down a "master of codes," but he's not played by Gregg Turkington, and that was disappointing to me.
—John Williams' theme from The Long Goodbye is in one scene? Even though it's barely audible over all the star wars? What? Can we perhaps continue down this unexpected but promising road and just make the Han Solo movie a remake of California Split, in space?
—I realize how deeply ironic and ultimately empty it is to take solace in a flicker of anti-capitalist sentiment from a Disney movie, but I still really appreciate the unexpectedly class-conscious revision of A New Hope's "wretched hive of scum and villainy" moment. It's a small beat, but so witty and true that it carries as much genuine political bite as anything in any Star Wars film. I guess you could say when the Force awakens, it stays woke!
