tick, tick...BOOM!

I understand that this is an adaption of the semi-autobiographical story Jonathan Larson wrote about himself but it’s so self-absorbed and egotistical I’m not surprised Lin Manuel Miranda wanted to direct it.
Plenty of people articulated it better than me but the comedy is stiff, the narrative is slow and not very compelling, the editing is confusing, the lighting is off a lot of the time, the cameos are cringy, the people and topics that matter most in this film are neglected. The most ironic part to me was when Michael said “I was just some mediocre actor, theres only one Jon Larson” when the only thing this guy had ever done was spend 8 years on a musical that sucked… idk sounds like he was just a mediocre playwright.
I just think that you can be talented and successful without being an asshole. Or at the very least you can make a movie that comments on that fact without calling it a type of genius.
