Damn, this was bad. Right from the start there's just something off here, with the direction of the film almost too in love with its own characters, centering them in frame for these crescendo moments as they strike a pose, fawning over them to an embarrassing degree. It feels extremely amateur which I wasn't expecting, and then it's hindered by a turgid script that insists on beating you over the head with exactly what's happening or what's about to happen.…

    Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Absolutely brilliant. Sumptuous visual style(s), bold story telling, wonderful voice work and a script that is lean, layered and funny all directed with style throughout. Just when you thought you'd had enough of Spider-man origin stories this somehow finds a way to make multiple origin stories essential viewing. If I have any complaints it's that some of the music was just noise to my ears (notably the song that closes the film). but even then the selections still feel right for the style and attitude of the visuals and overall direction.

This Thai film tells the story of a high school exam cheating ring in a heist movie format. This includes snappy breakdowns of the plans followed by the actual exams where of course things go wrong and the plan needs to evolve on the fly. It's a simple idea brilliantly executed with a great cast really selling the characters which cover a range of different backgrounds and privilege which is then used to introduce subplots and character growth. The final…
