The director (Fede Alvarez) and star (Jane Levy) of the excellent Evil Dead remake return for this home invasion thriller that manages to be a tense and well constructed effort for the most part, but it has some plot developments (the turkey baster mainly) that let it down and there are numerous question marks over how believable the whole thing is (would the blind man really not hear them/sense a presence, how did he kidnap the girl in the basement etc., and then the finale we’re supposed to be concerned he’ll go after the survivor but really – how?). It’s a decent thriller and well directed and acted but not as memorable as the Evil Dead remake.
