Men 2022
Men was disappointing. (Aren’t they always? Haha!) Some really fun visuals and cool gross moments but Garland’s depiction of misogyny is frustratingly surface-level, it’s almost stupid. The themes are scattered making the scares feel disjointed, the great parts unearned. Audiences will hate it for the wrong reasons - the unanswered questions and the ending sequence. Those are the best parts.

Annihilation 2018
A very kind and compassionate reshaping of our understanding of life, death, and the fear of the unknown layered beneath something very gorgeously gory. An absolute visual feast. Really gripping, even from my living room couch, I can’t imagine what it must have been like in a theater. And that end title card, holy shit! I loved this.
