  i don’t write reviews but i wanted to point out something that made my day. the man alice mistook for kotaro’s father seemed awfully familiar to mr. watanabe from ikiru by akira kurosawa. the restaurant scene where they encounter a birthday celebration, his liver problems and the park where he sits down on the swing all seem to subtly point to mr. watanabe’s story. this might be a coincidence but i’d like to think that was a nod to takashi shimura’s character
