Window Boy Would Also Like to Have a Submarine

There was a certain fantastical element to this film that I did not anticipate. A simple story about a cruise ship crew member stepping into a portal that transports him to another part of the world. It seemed to me like a story for dreamers. The ones who wonder about spirituality- whether we choose to believe in gods (like the Indonesians do in the film), or whether we choose to believe in life as the boy and woman did.

Unpredictable in every way, I have honestly never watched a film like this, and I must say I really enjoyed watching it.

I’ve never seen a film like this before. A running time of 2 hours and 50 minutes- all done in one almost non-existent location seemed astonishingly brilliant to me. Furthermore, Dogville’s themes on society, capitalism & democracy were so well communicated. The characters were both painfully nice & brutally unforgiving. Just like society can be.

Definitely will go watch more of Lars Von Trier’s films.
