marx said profit is the unpaid labor of the working class. rich people are the parasites, and their evilest symptom is making you believe it’s you who’s benefiting from them. eat the rich, vote for bernie.
flippancy aside, this is not fun—to bong joon-ho’s credit. the story itself takes hold when a family pushes out other precarious lower class workers to secure jobs working for a wealthy family. joon-ho makes it clear: there’s no way to displace the wealthy, to harm their financial stability. all you can do is climb on, break the back’s of, those who are in the same position as you. the rich stay rich, the poor kill each other over a stale loaf of bread.
