As hard as I try, I find it impossible to critique this without comparing it to the 1994 Gillian Armstrong version. So here we go:
My favorite thing about this is how well it establishes the relationship between Laurie and Amy. In the other version, it felt like Laurie married Amy as a desperate attempt to finally become part of the March family. Here, I felt like he really fell in love with both sisters.

There's a line in this movie about how a kid has to travel on four buses barefoot just get a bowl of soup from the soup kitchen. And so near the end of the movie, they give him shoes.
So now the kid still has to ride 4 buses for a bowl of soup... but at least he has shoes to do it in.
