Aw, nerts. What a Fuckin’ gem.
The dialogue is incredible. That to me is what elevates this picture to a higher notch. Performances, incredible; especially Seyfried, she is remarkably authentic. Oldman’s ability to bring Mank’s wit to life. Tom Burke’s masterful Orson impression. Dance’s eerily Hearst-resemblant stillness.
The warm, analog sound paired with the vivid, crisp black & white imagery.
The jazzy noir score.
The sizzles and softening.
The scratches and burns.
The reel-change pops.
Today’s technology & yesteryear’s methods + production…
Anticipated a better storyline but that may just be the typical consequence of expectations.
The style was impeccable, however, and considering it for its time, I can see how influential it was.
So many future pieces of entertainment drew inspiration from Blade Runner, and that’s clear to see - whether it be from the dynamics, function or canon of the Replicants, or from the films general style.
Tbh I liked Tutar’s moments more than anything, and it’s really her film. And I think Baron Cohen knew this. The chemistry was good. Not as funny as the 1st but didn’t expect it to be
