Katherine’s review published on Letterboxd:
I don't think I've ever watched a movie where it started and I wasn't entirely sure I was digging it, but by the end I have fallen absolutely in love with it.
This is the smartest and craziest horror musical I've ever seen, and yes I've seen Rocky Horror. It merges aspects of two classic works of literature - Gaston Leroux's The Phantom of the Opera and Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray - the latter being one of my favorite stories so I was just thrilled when I noticed those parallels here.
The performances are awesome. Every time Gerrit Graham opened his mouth I died. "Oh, I knew I shouldn't be screwing around with a dead man's music. This place is possessed." And oh hey, Jessica Harper - I hadn't seen her in anything but Suspiria and she's adorable.
