Frantz ★★★

55/100 review. Aesthetically well-inspired, with great care taken to choose the transitions between black-and-white and color, French and German, past and present, fantasy and reality. It's almost enough to overcome the slight problem that after a certain point, not a single thing anybody does in this movie makes any fucking sense at all. (Perhaps this is attributable to the fact that the movie is so obscenely frontloaded, and every attempt to mirror itself in the second half falls unbelievably flat.)
