The Two Popes

The Two Popes ★★★★½

Two outstanding performances at top of their game and it is a well-matched leads, Anthony Hopkins as Pope Benedict XVI and Jonathan Pryce as Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the future Pope Francis. The Two Popes discuss beliefs and responsibilities in the most thoughtful and engaging way as this film set in the most consequential moments in the history of the Catholic Church.

At the end, this film will not restore faith on Church; but by conveying a message of peace, tolerance, compassion and forgiveness, pillars upon which the very Church stands, it goes beyond. The surprising thing about this film, despite the politics surrounding them and their differences, their humanity which examines the role of forgiveness helps them converge for the unity of their church.
