This is a very late update to my last post about my documentary. For context, see my last post.

I’ve been at camp for the last few weeks, talking to leaders and working (I’m still a counselor there after all and I’m one of the more senior staff so I have a lot on my plate this summer). As such, I’ve been very busy and the Kickstarter campaign came around later than I hoped it would.

    But I did finally launch…

This is another update on my documentary. For some context, this was the original post I made regarding it.

For those who are aware, I wanted to post an update, a bit of a longer one. For those who kept up with it, the campaign I originally did did not go the way I had hoped. Which happens. It was my first Kickstarter campaign and I probably could have done a better job with marketing. It happens.

    I know several…

Absolutely beautiful in its animation. As others have said already, I want a feature length film with this style because god, is this just stunningly gorgeous. I wish Gobelins would do a feature length film, but I realize that’s not how it works. Regardless, the animation for this short is absolutely stunning. Colorful but grim and macabre, as a film about the afterlife should be. detailed and smooth and fluid, with some haunting shots and transitions.

    And of course the…

How many kids films talk about puberty? I don’t mean how many films mention it or how many coming of age films are there that talk about how their bodies are changing without going into detail. That’s pretty common. Coming of age films will often have aspects looking at the idea of a child’s body changing in that time but it won’t be in much detail. Coming of age films will usually focus more on the emotional and mental coming…

I spoke about this in my review of Hard to be a God, but I hate cynicism and nihilism. Specifically, that brand of pretentious cynicism that acts like they’ve reached enlightenment and that they’ve seen the hard truths no one else can see is angering to me. There’s so much of our culture that propagates that idea too. In cinema, in literature, in politics, down to the language we use. We describe cruel and violent men as having power, and…

Ive seen that this film tends to get used as an update post page of sorts so that’s what this is. Never made a post like this before, but I wanted to do this now because I have a very exciting announcement I want to share with the community.

I’m making a movie. A documentary. It’s called There Was a Cub Camp in the Poconos and it follows the last two summers at Akelaland Cub Scout Resident Camp, a summer…
