Patrick Delmore’s review published on Letterboxd:
I was 19 in the summer of 2001. ‘Moulin Rouge’ was a huge deal. I had my first girlfriend, for five weeks, and the illusion of love was strong. How cool that Ewan McGregor had a beard at the start of the film, he was coming back as Obi Wan next year! The songs were so much fun! I was working at a movie theater with my girlfriend and we each separately watched the film several times and had the soundtrack. The cool kids were alternating between this and Of Brother Where Art Thou’. We didn’t manage to see the film together before we broke up. I went to see the movie at an ‘also ran’ theatre with my friend Steve, right before 9/11 happened. Which is why I remember the date. Baz Luhrmann would wow again with ‘The Get Down’ on Netflix in 2016. By the time I was twenty ‘Moulin Rouge’ was the Coca Cola of love. But it was great while it lasted.
