When In Rome ★★★

Charming, albeit sappy, travelogue melodrama buddy film, Clarence Brown and Paul Douglas again working together, following up on Angels in the Outfield the previous year. There's an easygoing chemistry, and pleasing photography of the usual Roman landmarks that feature in many a travelogue film, and it even brought to mind a few scenes in Bava's The Girl Who Knew Too Much. I wasn't put off by the maudlin Hollywood religiosity, and enjoyed it for it's little pleasures like Joseph Calleia's police chief.
