Much of the writing on this seems to be about the kind of film it is and its scarcity in 2022 rather than the qualities of the film itself, which probably isn't a coincidence. The comedy doesn't quite hit as hard as it could and the script is formulaic, but it's so much fun to see Sandra relying on her natural charms and Channing being a sweet dummy. They make for a winning duo even through the most generic of scenes, and Daniel Radcliffe is simply having the time of his life. Thank god for great actors!
Pretty ideal as far as legacy sequels go, honoring the testosterone-fueled earnestness of the original while escalating the stakes significantly. Yes this is another film about trowma but it’s fascinating to watch Tom Cruise in this mode. Feels like an inflection point for his career, but yes, he’s still got it. Dynamite cast of sun-kissed hotties around him, even if most of them are wasted. Would love if more of today’s blockbusters were given this level of love and care, as exemplified by the tender Val Kilmer scene.
