Gimmicked storytelling notwithstanding, Boyhood tells a great story of what it’s like to grow up a boy. But the good thing about the film is it’s about more than him. We have a girl, a mom, and all her terrible boyfriends and husbands.
Arquette is likable enough that we forgive her for the mistakes she makes -and she makes a lot- and Hawke is outstanding as a father who does the reverse version of a midlife crisis. The one weak…
